Marvellous stuff. It's a real treat that you had the chance to colour this fully rather than having to resort to a limited palette (not that a limited palette ruins the experience).
If you don't mind, might I ask a question? My girlfriend recently was criticised for presenting an entry in an OC tournament that was "cluttered" and "lacked polish". Since she already knows how to improve her panelling (and I know she almost certainly could not work in the Dave Gibbons 3x3 format), is their any advice you could provide on keeping panels free of clutter, and what you consider "polish" to be? I'm currently asking around various influential artist on her behalf.
Thanks.
Hm... well, it's hard for me to really say without actually seeing the work. Polish I think is when people mean that the lines are clean and everything looks professional. The opposite of rough. Though I think rough work can look great too if you pull it off right.
As for cluttered.. Do you mean the panels themselves or the artwork inside? I don't know how many panels she uses per page, but 4-6 is a good average that usually doesn't look too crowded (well, depending on how you place the panels). When you start adding more, things can start to get cluttered inside up just because there's less space to draw everything. Generally it helps to give 'breathing room' around the figure to create more balanced compositions and also add space for word bubbles. Always plan out word bubbles as you draw, I say, and leave appropriate space for them. Otherwise, they can mess up your compositions and make them very cluttered.
The work she was criticised for was [link] , by the way (and yes, we will be changing the font for the next round
Thanks awfully for the opinion.
