Squirtle to Blastoise

Description

Bulbasaur through Venusaur

When I was first introduced to Pokemon, during those ancient days of Red and Blue and middle school, probably the thing that bugged me the most was how some Pokemon contained inorganic elements. Like, why does Primeape have iron wrist bands? Do they find them? Make them? Evolve them? How does an animal-like creature grow a set of iron wrist bands? Can they be taken off? Do the wrist bands bleed?

And then there was Blastoise. WHY DOES IT HAVE CANNONS ON ITS BACK? HOW DID THOSE EVOLVE? HOW DO THEY WORK? WHAT DOES ITS SKELETON LOOK LIKE? WHAT KIND OF ENVIRONMENTAL PRESSURES CREATE SUCH A THING?? IS BLASTOISE A CYBORG?! SOMEBODY ANSWER ME!

After subsequent generations of Pokemon, this is now one of the least troubling questions about the Poke-verse.

Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise are property of Gamefreak.

PFFFFT. I guess it's not like how Cubones get their skull helmet from their deceased mothers. That, at least, is explained in the Pokedex.
