EDIT: Uploaded a better quality image.

24x36 Acrylic on canvas.
Spent about 4 days painting this.
Picture taken on crappy camera.
Used a sketch drawn from life as reference and added a few things from my head.

LOL really?

Yeah, women, in general, have better color perception than men. Also, men are more likely to be color blind. That's why you have that stereotype of a woman talking about three different shades of red and to a man they all look the same.

Wow... very interesting.

I remember in color theory class there was a guy who was partially color blind. As you can imagine, he didn't do so well.

So impressive.

Colours are very life-like and you did a great job with the rock textures. Cave lighting appropriately deviates from realism.

I can't critique the technique, since I have no knowledge whatsoever of traditional art beyond graphite. :) Which makes it ever better?

Thank you very much. I've spent quite a bit of time drawing rocks in Hawaii, since there are so many interesting formations. This painting I used a sketch of a lava tube cave that had grown over with plants.

I suppose there is some awe for mystery, though traditional art isn't so hard. It's like any other medium, it requires a lot of practice.

It's so much easier to cheat in digital. :D Perfect eraser, full-chroma-RGB colour selection, perspective, rotation and scale transforms, brushes, texture overlays, layering, opacity masks, smoothing algorithms, bezier curves, filter effects, etc etc etc.

I have real respect for anyone who can do ANYTHING in traditional.

I do love all those things about digital. However, I think there are a lot of things that are actually easier about traditional--- it just takes more practice to get to that point. It requires a certain level of confidence to paint a background completely with paint before adding figures.
